I guess it is a similar experiences for most of us that after
consuming a whole lot of meal we may want to engage in certain
activities like eating other things to aid digestion, some may even feel
weak and just want to sleep and relax, while other may feel like
smoking or bathing. But however, Studies have shown that some things we
do after eating which may seem so appealing to us may not actually be
that good for our system, they may be doing much harm to us than good.
Below are things we shouldn't do after eating even when our appetite is yearning for it.
No sleeping
This is a very common experience for most of us. After consuming a whole lot of meal, the next thing we feel like doing is just to go straight to the bed and lie down, i think i am very guilty of this one - to me eating food looks like a great send-off to bed, Sometimes when am having acute insomnia the next thing i do is to find something delicious to eat because i know after that my next destination is straight to the bed.
But however, this is not so good according to experts,
sleeping immediately after meal prevents effective digestion. So before
you sleep, make sure the digesting process have begun already or better
still wait for an one hour before taking a nap or going to bed.
No smoking
Smokers see this as a good way of digesting their food but however, this is so not a good habit. It is said that smoking after a meal is equivalent to smoking 10 cigarettes. No matter how true or false this is, smoking is harmful to your body and you should not smoke after a meal.
No bathing
Blood
flow around the stomach is necessary if digestion is to take place.
Bathing immediately after meal may redirect blood flow from your stomach
to other part of your body and this is not so good because it delays
the digestion process.
No fruits
This is a
popular culture among many of us, we think that eating fruits after meal
is the best way of aiding digestion, well its not. Because if you eat
fruits after meal, it can make the food not digest at all and could even
lead to food decay in your system. So if you must consume fruits, make
sure it is before the original meal itself, in this way digestion will
be effective. If you must eat anything after meal, that should be
deserts because those are the things that brings about digestion e.g.
cakes, biscuits, chocolates and some other confectioneries.
No tea
Teas
are acidic and will affect the digestion process. If you consume
protein in the meal, the acid from the tea will harden the protein
content, making it difficult to digest. Drinking tea immediately after a
meal will also interfere with iron absorption by the body. Avoid tea
one hour before and after meals is a good way of preventing this
problem.
