Vitiligo is a disease that is characterized by patches of the skin losing it pigments. This is one of the most dreaded skin problem in the world. It can wreck a whole lot of havoc on ones beauty leaving the sufferers psychologically stress or stigmatized. Vitiligo is said to be an auto-immune disease which can lead to the death of pigment producing cells (melanocytes) in the skin.

Melanin is a pigment that gives the skin it color, it is produced by cells called melanocytes. When these cells die or stop producing melanin, vitiligo tend to occur. However, what results in the death of these cells is still not understood, but some environmental factors have been said to be the cause of it. In vitiligo, there is no extent to which color loss are possible. It can affect any part of the skin in the body; including hairs, inside the nose and mouth.    

Possible Causes of vitiligo

Although, health experts still don't know why cells producing melanin dies or fail to produce. But there are some factors doctors believed could lead to such.

   A disorder in which your immune system attacks and destroys the melanocytes in the skin
   Family history (heredity)
.    A trigger event, such as sunburn, stress or exposure to industrial chemicals

.    Vitamin C deficiency

Complications

People with vitiligo may be at increased risk of:

.    Stigmatization or psychological stress
.    Sunburn and skin cancer
.    Eye problems, such as inflammation of the iris (iritis)
.    Hearing loss

However, vitiligo has no permanent cure but there are several treatment regiments that could be effective including over the counter medications and home remedies. Note that treatments may only restore skin color but may not prevent future occurrence.   

Home remedies for vitiligo;

Papaya

Papaya is very beneficial to your overall health as well as your beauty. It has been shown to be effective against vitiligo.

. Rub pieces of papaya on the patches of skin affected by vitiligo.

. Wash it when dry.

. Drink papaya juice regularly to replenish the body of melanin cells lost due to vitiligo.

Red clay and ginger

Red clay is rich in copper content and ginger is amazing as well.

. Add a tablespoon of ginger juice to two tablespoons of red clay.

. Apply the mixture to the white patches every day.

. Drink ginger juice often to improve your health.

Reduce your stress level

Stress is not a good thing to your skin. It can breakdown skin tissues and leading to acne and other skin problems. Although stress may not cause vitiligo, but excess stress can lead to the growth of patches caused by it. Prevent vitiligo from worsening by reducing your stress level.

Sunscreen Lotion

Since vitiligo is observed in areas of skin that are often exposed to the sunlight and sunburn could also be the cause of it. Frequent exposure of the skin to sunlight, may worsen the situation.

As a preventive measure,

. Apply sunscreen to the parts of the body exposed to the sun.

. Wear long dresses to cover all exposed parts.

Drink water from a copper vessel

Copper is a key nutrient in the body, the body utilizes when producing melanin. A way to ged rid of vitiligo is to drink water from a copper vessel so that you can take in some little amount of the mineral.

Basil leaves

Basil leaves are known to If there is any leaf that has a good anti-aging and anti-viral properties,is the basil leaves. They are key treatment of vitiligo.

. Mixing basil leaves with lime juice. This will help stimulate the production of melanin on your skin.

. Apply the mixture of basil juice and lime juice to your skin everyday for better result.

Walnuts

Walnuts are wonder fruits that have pool of health benefits, maybe you may not have come across such an info before!. Its just a bonus that this fruit is also very vital when treating vitiligo, considering it other amazing benefits. Eating at least 5 walnuts everyday can help you deal with this complication. For even better results,

. Crush walnut powder and add water to make a paste.

. Apply the paste to the affected areas of the skin at least 3-4 times every day for 15-20 minutes.

. Inculcate it into your daily diet at least eating 5 Walnuts daily.  

Foods high in Vitamin C

This water soluble vitamin, Vitamin C is also an important treatment to consider when wrestling vitiligo. Deficiency of Vitamin C is very common with many patients with vitiligo. You may want to consider Improving your diet rich in this vitamin. Fruits rich in Vitamin C includes orange, lemons, grapefruits, strawberries and broccoli.

Turmeric is an effective home remedy for vitiligo. It is usually called "magic powder" in India due to it amazing benefits. It is one of the home remedies most people reach out for when dealing with some issues.

. Mix turmeric powder with mustard oil

. Apply the mixture for 20 minutes to the affected area.
