Initially, it was originated and used as an anti-estrogen under the brand name ‘Masteril’ for treating breast cancer. It was largely used in conjunction with the Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM), Tamoxifen for the treatment of breast cancer, and decrease estrogen levels considerably in women undergoing such treatment.
