You may be thinking that sun exposure, stress and smoking are the
only things one should be mindful of when it comes to the process of
aging, but however, it has been studied that they are not the only
culprits when it comes to aging. Studies have shown that there quite a
number of foods out there that we should concern ourself about when it
comes to the process of aging, these foods have been shown to promote
wrinkles and we should be careful of how we diet on them.
Sugar
We
may not have payed good attention to this but sugar has been proved to
be the number one food to avoid if you’re looking to slow down the
ageing process. Not only does it make us fat but also contributes
greatly to the aging process. Collagen and elastin, are
proteins in the body that brings about flexibility and resilience to the
skin tissues, it has been shown that sugar have a way of degrading
these proteins bringing about lack of flexibility in the skin, making
the skin susceptible to wrinkles.
Potatoes and Grains
Potatoes
and grains when broken down, turns into sugar. They can also use up
valuable minerals that contributes to skin health such as Zinc. They
give almost nothing in return except calories.
Alcohol
Alcohol
is another thing one should be mindful of when we are concern about
aging. Excessive alcohol depletes minerals such as magnesium and zinc,
as well as essential fatty acids, and vitamins such as vitamin B, A and C
which are very vital for skin and overall health of the body.
Trans-fats/hydrogenated fats
The
society have for long been warned against the adverse effect of
trans-fat and how devastating their effect could be on our overall
health. It has been shown that trans-fats are the leading cause of
cholesterol build up in the body and we all know how harmful cholesterol
can be. Trans fats are fat we can find on foods with a long shelf life,
such as biscuits, fast foods and fries. They reduce the fluidity of our
cells, burden the liver and add to inflammations causing ageing.
Processed meats
Processed
meats are high in salt and preservatives and this could promotes
puffiness and inflammations. To add to that, they also use up vitamin C
which is very essential in collagen formation and this could lead to
wrinkles and early aging.
Artificial sweeteners
We
should never underestimate the function of the liver, it plays a lot of
crucial roles in the body as well as slowing down the aging process.
Artificial sweeteners are things that do not support the progress of the
liver, they always work against it and as such they are food we should
not dedicate our time eating because they cause us much harm than good.
Caffeine
A cup of coffee could do many
positive things to our body like making us feel alert and active in the
morning to face everyday challenges and lot more. But this early morning
glory have some makeups that are not so appealing when it comes to the
aging process. Coffee contains caffeine which cause the body to
dehydrate too quickly, so if you must take coffee, make sure you also
drink a lot of water just to dilute the impact of it caffeine content.
