How Guys Text When They Like You

Texting is an easy and a quick way of communication—However you may go about is in the wrong way or you may do it right. Everyone has a slightly different texting style. But since a lot rides on texts, a guy who likes you will message you differently than a guy who just wants to be acquaintances.

Just think about it. A lot can go wrong in a text (like an embarrassing autocorrect moment, for one) so when a guy is really trying hard not to screw it up, they’ll make sure every line is perfect. Here are a few subtle things you’ll want to look out for if you just swapped numbers.

They may go heavy on the emojis.

It’s almost like emojis were invented to clear up possibly misunderstood text situations. These days, there’s an emoji for almost everything. If this is a guy who’s aware that you don’t know his level of sarcasm or sense of humor just yet, he’ll go out of his way to make sure that emojis will help indicate when he’s joking. They’ll also reveal his playful nature. If he’s not totally an emoji guy, adding “LOL” to the end of sentences will let you know he’s being lighthearted. He’s probably not actually laughing out loud, but he very well may be smiling when he sent you that text.

They’ll find any excuse to start up a new conversation.

If he’s bored, it suddenly seems like you’re his go-to person. You may get a few texts that just say “hey” or “what’s up?” If he wasn’t interested, he wouldn’t even bother. But you’re on his mind, and he just wants any sort of excuse to talk to you. Some of these early conversations may be your best, because there’s still so much you’re learning about each other. Every text can be something new.

He’s not afraid to double text.

It may seem like there are a lot of etiquette rules out there, but double texting is fairly new. Much like the name, it’s when a guy texts you after you haven’t texted back. Some people feel like it makes them look a little desperate, but this guy isn’t too worried. He likes you to a point where he’d rather take the chance. Plus, he’s probably got a lot to say.

He’ll also be the one to text you first.

You don’t have to worry about being the person to start things up — he has no problem texting you first, regardless of what time it is. He’ll also send you a text at midnight if it’s something he might forget to tell you in the morning, or if he sees something that reminds him of you. This maneuver actually has two purposes—he’s striking up a conversation for you to reply to first thing in the morning, and is also secretly hoping you’re awake for a spontaneous late night chat.

He’s got a bunch of questions, and some of them are straight up bizarre.

Instead of just asking about your favorite movie or musical group, his “getting to know you” questions are a lot more creative. He wants to know what celebrity you’d bring with you on a desert island, and the one television show you’d wish out of existence if you had the power. This is because he’s making sure he’s compatible with you, and having fun together is all part of it. He’ll ask you questions about your job, and your family, but potentially avoid questions about your past relationships. Aside from, “currently seeing anyone?”

He won’t be too crude, unless you’re the one who sends the suggestive text first.

Guys are often bold when it comes to texts and sex. But if it’s someone who wants more than a one-night thing, he’s going to be a little conservative at first. That’s because, with you, he’s got so much more on his mind and doesn’t want to blow it by sounding perverted or making you uncomfortable. However, if you bring up the topic first, he’ll be down to chat about it (and probably intrigued that you made the first move.)

He hints at a hangout.

Even though it’s perfectly fine to hang out with a guy as just a friend, this guy seems really into the idea of making plans. If he’s brought it up multiple times, that’s him subtly asking you out on a date. Don’t be afraid to say yes if you think he’s got real potential.

If it seems like your phone is constantly blowing up, this guy is definitely crushing on you. Just think about it—when was the last time you had a day-long text conversation with a guy who’s just a friend?
