Constantly experiencing mouth dryness also called "xerostomia", can have a big effect on your oral health. It can create an enabling environment for bacteria to breed, it can destroy your gums, affect your taste buds and impair digestion. Dry mouth is often an indication that your salivary glands are not making enough saliva as required. The condition may occur due to the effect of medications, aging, or as a result of radiation therapy for cancer. Drink water


Keeping yourself hydrated always if very important and can actually be a step in the right direction. It is hard to experience symptoms of dry mouth when you keep up your hydration levels constant. Before exploring any other remedies, try to drink water from time to time, because it may be all that you need to treat the condition. 

Avoid certain medications


Certain medication can can take a big toll on your health and can make you experience symptoms associated with dry mouth. Study have shown that more than 90 percent of people who experience dry mouth is usually as a result of medication. The most common includes antihistamines, antihypertensives, hormone medications, bronchodilators e.t.c. However, if you are convinced that you are experiencing dry mouth due to medication, it would be wise to speak with your doctor for other medication options that may be suitable for you. But make sure you don't discontinue your meds without your doctors approval.

Stop things that may dehydrate you


Things that may actually lead to dry mouth includes excessive smoking, and excess alcohol

Alcohol -- Alcohol is actually a diuretics, it chemicals instruct your kidney to produce more urine than normal and this can actually lead to dehydration.

Smoking -- Nicotine just like alcohol also act as a diuretics. It stimulates the kidney to produce more urine. Unlike alcohol, smoking dehydrates you faster and the effect are more devastating.

Chew gums


There are lots to gain when you chew gums. Most people don't know that chewing gums can have several benefits aside just being a thing that brings fun. Gums can be a good factor that aid effective digestion and can also help to kill germs that causes bad breath. Chewing gums most especially sugar free ones, can actually help you cope with the symptoms you are experiencing. Gums can stimulate the salivary glands to produce saliva more often so that it can wet your mouth and prevent them against dryness. The best part of it is that the saliva produced are are often less slimy and can make your mouth feel good.

Improve overall oral care


When you have a poor oral health, it is often an indication that your mouth will go dry more often. Giving your self some good oral care can be step in the right direction. Not only will it help you overcome mouth dryness but also keep you far away from gum decay, toothaches and other disgusting conditions associated with poor oral hygiene. Frequently wash and floss your mouth as required, and try to include the use of baking soda in your oral hygiene regimen. 

Avoid breathing through your mouth


The nose is an organ for breathing not the mouth. The only situation where you would need your mouth for respiration, is when you are having difficulties breathing through your nose probably when experiencing the symptoms of flu and catarrh where your nose is completely blocked. But anything other than this is totally not advisable. Whenever we exhale, we release a very dangerous chemical (carbon di oxide) this chemical can take a big toll on our health. When released through the mouth, can cause some significant damage to our oral health but in a subtle way.
