When we hear "kitchen", the next thing that comes to mind is food, cooking, plates, pots, and chores. We usually find it difficult realizing that this section of our home is far beyond all things food. It can also be a place to find instant medical help, a home of beauty accessories, and a place for recreation. This is where life really exist in your home. Whenever you hear home remedies for treating this or that, does it always ring bell to you that what they are talking about, are things you can mainly get in your kitchen? your kitchen in a kind of way, can actually be a home of all basic things that foster life.

Kitchen as a Medical Center

This is the only hospital you have in your home. Always visit it when you need some medical assistance. There are several ailments whose treatments you can always get in your kitchen. Let just look at a few.

Turmeric for infections

Turmeric is highly respected in India as a "holy powder" that can be used to prevent infections and treat wounds. If you don't have any first aid kits in your home, turmeric from your kitchen can serve as one. It contains a compound called curcumin which have an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Turmeric powder can stop bleeding, prevent microorganisms from infesting wounds and can initiate healing. Just apply the powder directly on the cuts or make to a paste by adding little amount of water, then wait for the healing process to begin.

Apples for heartburn

Heartburn is caused by acid reflux, a condition whereby stomach acids or bile irritate the gullet (food pipe). Apples contains pectin, a soluble fiber that's really great at absorbing stomach acid. It also contain two types of acids (malic acid and tartaric acid) that works to beat back any juices that flow up from your stomach. Reach out for this fruit when you are having a heartburn. 

Sugar for hiccups

Hiccups is an involuntary spasm that occur in the diaphragm and respiratory organs, which characteristically produces a gulping sound. The effect can be very uncomfortable and annoying. You can actually deceive your body into stopping that reaction by putting a teaspoon of sugar underneath your tongue. The sweet sensation of the sugar will stimulate the vagus nerves, the longest cranial nerve in your body. The stimulation starts from the brain stem down to the diaphragm to control the spasm. Just Keep the sugar under your tongue until you stop hiccupping, and then swallow to fill the back of your throat to produce even more sensation.

Prunes or vegetables for constipation

Dried prunes or vegetables can be a good laxatives that helps with constipation. They are very rich in insoluble fiber, a key nutrient that aid bowel movement. The fiber help absorb enough water and soften feces so that they can move effectively in your bowels.

Cucumbers for puffy eyes

95% of Cucumber is made up of water. Cucumber can come in handy when treating puffy eyes. Because of the water content, it can cause blood vessels to constrict and reduce inflammation. Just place a slice of cucumber over your puffy eyes and leave for few minutes then watch as the healing process begins. Iced water is a good alternative just in case you have no cucumber to reach out for.

Oatmeal for eczema

Oatmeal contains a lot of phytochemicals, chemicals that have several anti-inflammatory properties. It can help soothe skin rashes and other skin inflammations. You can create a soothing bath by grinding 1/3 cup of plain oatmeal into a fine powder; pour the powder into lukewarm water and stir in evenly with your hands until the water is a milky color, they have a good bath with it. Another option is; make the oatmeal into paste by adding little amount of water, apply to the infected area and leave for 10 to 20 minutes. Do this regularly until you get a desired results. 

Cranberries for urinary tract health

Cranberries may not cure Urinary Tract Infections UTIs, but may help reduce the chances of occurrence. It contain proanthocyanidins, a compound that fends off the bacteria that cause urinary tract infections (UTI). This substance has been shown to prevent infection by keeping the bacteria from attaching to the bladder walls. Consuming a juice of cranberries, often may help prevent the recurrence for those that once suffered from UTIs.

Ginger for menstrual cramps

Not very many women knew about this. Menstrual cramps is one of the most dreaded symptoms of the females menstruation. Ginger is a good pain reliever for women during their menstrual period. Brew up a cup a warm ginger tea and drink with pride, its going to help relief pains and cramps that accompanied menstruation.

Avocado

Avocado is not only good for you inside but also outside too. It is very rich in antioxidants, essential omega-3 fats and vitamin E. Avocados contains essential fatty acids which can help inject a deep moisture boost into dry skin. They can also serve as a natural remedy for sunburn.

Olive Oil

No one can deny the effect of olive oil when it comes looking good. They have a whole lots of functions in making us look good. They are good skin cleanser, hair treatment and skin moisturizer.

Honey

Packed with antibacterial properties, honey has been used to treat infections for years. It can be a fantastic alternative to chemical treatments, soothing inflamed acne and even providing a home-made remedy to seborrheic dermatitis. Containing hydrogen peroxide, it can be used as an anti fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial balm. Use it as a first-aid skin balm when you have any skin irritations like sore lips, dry skin or an itchy scalp.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has extremely moisturising properties and are full of fatty acids to help nourish your hair deep down. Mainly comprised of small medium-chain fatty acids, it can penetrate more deeply and faster than most other conditioners so if left on for an hour your hair will benefit far more than any other treatment.

Lemon

Lemons are rich in Vitamin C and citric acid so they can be very helpful in brightening and lightening your skin when used over time.  Notably, Vitamin C is an excellent anti-oxidant that can neutralise free radicals in the skin and also boost collagen production - the secret to beautiful skin.
