Beer is one of the most consumed beverage around the world right from time, it has been a very controversial beverage ever since it origin. While consuming beer in excess may be lethal due to its alcoholic content, some studies have shown that beer consumed in moderation may be beneficial to your health.

Beer is more nutritious than other alcoholic drinks.

Beer is a beverage rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fibers even richer than those present in wines. The antioxidant properties in beer helps to fights against oxidizing agents which damage living cells. Minerals includes phosphates, iron and calcium which are essential macro nutrients in the body. 

Beer can help protect your heart.

According to a study in 'new England Journal of Medicine', when comparing the health benefits of beer, wines and spirits, shows that moderate beer drinking may make you less likely to suffer from cardiovascular diseases and stroke compare to those who do not consume beer. 

Beer helps prevent kidney stones.

Drinking beer has shown to help reduce kidney stones. Kidney stones is a kidney disease that occur when precipitates are formed in kidney tubules, preventing the flow and filtration of urine. According to a research, men and women who reported drinking a moderate amount of beer reduced their risk of developing a kidney stones by 41 percent. It has also been shown that beers that contain a lot of hops for example pale ales, are rich in phytochemicals which promotes kidney health.

Beer lowers bad cholesterol.

There are two types of cholesterol, the good cholesterol which also known as High Density Lipo-protein  HDL and bad cholesterol also known as Low Density Lipo-protein LDL. The LDL is the type of cholesterol that is detrimental to the body, it can clogged or accumulate in blood vessels leading to lack of proper blood flow which could lead to a dangerous cardiovascular disease. 

The soluble fiber in beer can help reduce the LDL in the body preventing heart complications. 

Beer strengthens your bones.

Due to its high calcium and silicon content, beer may help in strong bones and connective tissues formation.

Beer helps reduce stress.

Researchers found that two glasses of beer a day can reduce work-related stress or anxiety. However, this should no be a routine for coping with stress or depression because at a point, it could be leading to more harm than good. While alcohol may help with stress reduction in the moment, in the long run it can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety, making stress harder to deal with. 

Beer may help improve memory.

Hops has a secret ingredient that can help improve cognitive function – Xanthohumol. It’s a flavonoid that helps slow down the degradation process of memory. The chemical could help protect brain cells from oxidative stress or damage associated with dementia.

Beer helps cognitive function.

Although this is not an encouragement for an increased alcohol consumption, but moderate alcohol consumption has been proven to increase cognitive function.
