Compelling Reasons to Walk Out of a Bad Relationship

May 15, 2019 By Kayode Oseh 1.9K

How ever bad a relationship has become, it’s still a big decision to finally call it quits and move on. It often takes a long time and an awful lot of ‘one last chance’ moments, before that decision is made, especially if the relationship is not so bad, it’s just that it’s not completely right.

The final decision can be only yours alone, but if you’ve been wondering what comes after the split, here are things you gain, when you do end a wrong relationship:

You will learn that you are stronger, than you think

You may be wracked with doubt right now, but once this is done, you will understand that you are a much stronger person, than you had ever realized. It will teach you to believe in a new, can-do, way of thinking.

You will be able to meet new friends

Your new found freedom isn’t just about being able to date again, you will also be able to go out more and meet new people, just as friends. A relationship takes up a lot of time and now you will have time for simple socializing again.

You will learn to accept change

Sometimes it feels easier to stay in an unhappy rut, than to risk a change. Taking control of your own life and deciding to end the relationship will teach you that change is not always a bad thing.

You will be happier

These may be difficult times at the moment, but in the long run, if you are in an unhappy relationship, then things can only get better by ending it. Relationships do need to be worked on, but if deep down you are really unhappy, then it’s time to face up to the truth and start thinking about your own happiness.

You will make a comeback!

Once this is all over and you’ve got your head straight again, you have the chance to start all over. When you are ready, you can start dating again and you will soon find that there really are plenty of other fish in the sea, and this time, you’ll know what you’re looking for.

Your self-respect will return

When you do make the decision, you feel far better for it. If the relationship is bad or abusive, then you will definitely be better off out, but even if it’s just wrong, ending it will give you a new self-confidence and a new beginning.

You will have a clear mind and a clear conscience

If you know, in your heart, that a relationship is wrong, then you are probably spending and an inordinate amount of time thinking about it and even feeling guilty at the prospect of ending it. At least, once it has been ended, you will be able to focus more on other things like friends, family and your future.

You will have a better idea of what you want

If you treat this as a learning experience, rather than a disaster, then you will emerge from it with a far clearer idea of what you want from life. This is an opportunity to take a step back and make some life changing decisions on where you really want to go from here.

You regain your freedom

The first thing you gain is your freedom. Now that may not be entirely what you want, but living the single life for a while may be good for you. It will give you space to re-discover the real you, renew old friendships and start your life over again.

You give him his freedom too

Even if you don’t love the other person any more, you might still care about him and it’s difficult to hurt someone that you care about. Delaying the inevitable, though, is going to hurt him more, so it’s kinder, sometimes, to make the break for both of you and give him his freedom too.
